Reflection on class

So for my last blog post I would like to write a little reflection on the class.

I would have to say that this class has, overall, been a positive experience. It was challenging mentally, but not overly challenging in terms of workload. I like how we were encouraged to think and apply our knowledge. However my favorite part has to be that there were no tests. I like that we were evaluated on our knowledge without having to take tests. I'm not a good test taker, so when we were told that there was no tests I was ecstatic. Once again I would like to say that I enjoyed the class overall.

The end is near!!!

When I asked Dr. Goates what to blog about this week he told me I could blog about the weather. So here it goes:

5 day forecast (compliments of Weather.com):
So it looks as if we are in for a nice day tomorrow. But then from there the temperatures are going to drop and its going to get colder. I'm not a very big fan of the cold weather. I think I'm going to have to move somewhere warmer when I get older. I hope my 5 day forecast helps anyone reading this. Its good to have a good knowledge of the weather before going anywhere.

Vicious circle of society

Who holds the power? Better yet, what holds the power? I would have to agree with most people who would say that titles, or positions, hold the power in our society. We then talked about 6 institutions that hold the power. The first three are very fundamental and were most important in the past than now. The last three have recently become much more powerful in our society. These institutions have been labeled "The Big Three."

You could make the argument that people live to serve the Big Three. You could also say that a more educated person would generally excel in the Big Three more than an uneducated person. This means that more educated people live to serve, and operate, the Big Three institutions. I think this whole idea is outrageous. People want to bitch about not having any power in society, for example; the occupy wall street movement, but then they hand these institutions the power by going to college and getting a job working for the Big Three. Why then, do so many people go to college? I'll tell you. Because society says so, because the institutions brainwash you into thinking you need to go to college to get a good job. This just makes the job market more competitive and in my opinion is a vicious circle that literally gets nowhere. I cannot understand why people don't see this.

Have a little, want more..... doesn't everybody?

In Monday's class we further discussed the Goate buck exercise. We talked about the generalization that more successful students tend to comply with rules and authority more than less successful students. I found this idea rather interesting, but still true. More successful students are more successful because they listen to authority, authority mainly meaning teachers/professors. To succeed in education, a student needs to listen to what the professor tells him/her to do. And do it to the best of his/her ability.

This can  be related to the article about the have's, have not's, and the have a little, want more's. These successful students would categorized as have a little, want more's. But what is it that these students have? These students have something and want more of it but I'm confused as to what that really means. Technically speaking, isn't any students, successful or not, a have a little want more?
