In Monday's class we further discussed the Goate buck exercise. We talked about the generalization that more successful students tend to comply with rules and authority more than less successful students. I found this idea rather interesting, but still true. More successful students are more successful because they listen to authority, authority mainly meaning teachers/professors. To succeed in education, a student needs to listen to what the professor tells him/her to do. And do it to the best of his/her ability.
This can be related to the article about the have's, have not's, and the have a little, want more's. These successful students would categorized as have a little, want more's. But what is it that these students have? These students have something and want more of it but I'm confused as to what that really means. Technically speaking, isn't any students, successful or not, a have a little want more?
I have to agree that all students including people want more of something if not everything. It does not matter how many resources a person has or how successful someone is in school. The only difference between a peson who has a lot and a person you has very little is the accessibility to gain more.
